I’m Camil Dumont and I am seeking a Vancouver Green Party Nomination for City Council.
To help get Camil on the big ballot, vote for him in the Greens Party Nomination election.
“If you’re a Vancouver Green Party member in good standing, I’d be grateful for your support in the upcoming nomination election, on May 9th. I humbly ask for your vote. I am ready and excited to bring Green values, your voice and your ideas to City Council. Let’s work together, and improve our community for all.”
my elected experience
In the 2018 Vancouver election, more than 65,000 Vancouverites supported my candidacy, and I was elected to the Vancouver Park Board. It quickly became an unprecedented and challenging time for our city. The COVID-19 pandemic brought immense new pressures and amplified existing ones. It was a wild and defining moment to be in leadership.
During that term, I was twice elected Chair of the Park Board. I led with compassion, openness, and a commitment to Vancouver Green values. While our board was not perfect, and I learned important and sometimes difficult lessons along the way, I am very proud of the deeply progressive work we accomplished.
That experience gave me a strong understanding of how Vancouver’s systems work and how to move meaningful change forward. I worked hard to honour the trust placed in me, and I’m ready to build on that experience. I’m prepared to step up and serve as a Green City Councillor.
my love for our city
Vancouver is an incredible place. I don’t want to live anywhere else. I was raised here, and now I’m raising my family here. I care deeply about this community and am committed to making it better for everyone who calls it home, lifers and newbies alike.
We need a city that is safe, clean, and connected. We must honour this place and the people, plants, and animals who share it. To me, that means striving for a more just and equitable foundation, building stronger relationships, and showing up for one another as respectful neighbours.
Vancouver deserves an era of radical collaboration in politics. I want to help usher that in. We need to work across party lines at all levels of government, ensuring people are heard and able to participate meaningfully in our democracy. It’s understandable to feel disillusioned right now when we look at some of our so-called leaders. But that’s exactly why we need to collaborate and step up in our engagement and governance.
I’m ready to do that work: to bring people together, reduce systemic harms, and celebrate what makes this city so special. Let’s take care of this place we all call home, together. I’d love to help bring your voice to city council. That feels like a central part of the job I’m seeking. And I’m into it.
living here
I know I’ve had many privileges, but growing up in a wealthy family wasn’t one of them. My parents were incredibly resourceful and hard-working, like so many I know. They separated when I was young, but co-parented with respect and care. I split my time between Kitsilano and East Vancouver, and was raised in co-op housing. Families come in different shapes, for me, Vancouver worked. Ours fit. It wasn’t always easy, but it was a strong, supportive way to grow up. And I’d like to help make Vancouver “fit” for as many folks as possible.
I want housing security and stability to be the norm for Vancouverites and their families, today and for the next generations, regardless of income. We need creative, practical solutions that make this city more affordable. I see how stretched people are. We have the tools, we need to use them.
I want our elders to feel supported in community, and our most vulnerable neighbours to be cared for. I want less waste, cleaner beaches and water, and air that stays clear through the summer. I want our leaders to cooperate. We must be willing to work toward that. I am.
As we head toward the civic election, I expect the Green platform to be shaped collaboratively by the candidates who ultimately get nominated, with input from the party’s executive and membership, and guided by our Green mayoral candidate, Pete Fry. Platform details will emerge from that collaboration, in due time. I’m ready to be a strong, constructive voice in that work.
If what I’ve shared resonates with you, I’d be honoured to have your support to represent the Greens in this election.
